What the…? There’s a pheasant in my garden!

Woke up this morning to find a peahen wandering around my garden.

Good thing I don't really like eating game or else today's Sunday roast might have been quite different...

She stood in my garden staring up at that tree/fence for bloody ages.

Here birdie, birdie, birdie!

It was her lucky day because of my two cats that spotted her, she was chased off by Skinny, the one who to this day hasn’t even managed to catch a fly, much less anything furry or feathery. She does however very proudly brings us discarded feathers she’s found which she lays at our feet. How do we know she’s not a natural born hunter? A field mouse once ran over her paw one evening (t was quite dark) and my useless but adorable cat actually looked the other way trying to figure out what just happened … bless.

Meet Sooty aka Skinny. Real name Sootysmudge because of the grey smudge on her nose.

  1. SHOOT IT, SHOOT IT. I was out hunting with a friend once – not that we were ever particularly successful – and we pulled up alongside a pheasant and it just looked at me. We considered shooting it, but it was just too easy… we drove on.
